Karakuduk Oil Field

Karakuduk Field, Kazakhstan

TDE was engaged to supply a turnkey oil processing plant, a complex gas treatment plant (CGTP), and a central oil treatment plant (COTP), with a nominal inlet oil flow of 6,000 m³/day (37,740 BPD), including the supply of spare parts for commissioning, start-up, and two years of operation. The contract also included supply of an associated gas processing plant designed for a capacity of 15,600 Nm³/h @ 200 kPag and 30ºC (14 MMSCFD @ 29 psig and 86°F).

The project presented logistical challenges for the TDE team; as the site is located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, only a small shipping window was available. In addition, TDE was tasked with ensuring that all equipment complied with the explicit regulations of the region (GOST-K, IEC, ATEX, etc.). Another obstacle presented by the location of the project site was the requirement that TDE acquire a Permit to Use as proof that the plant is safe to run.

TDE provided detailed design (process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control) and fabrication of the crude oil and gas processing plants.

They supplied plant chemicals, lubricants, and firefighting equipment and provided supervision of field assembly of the modular supplied equipment. To ensure the equipment’s safe arrival onsite, TDE used highly modular packaging for the shipping, redesigning skids to be separable to meet the shipping window. TDE equipment was registered prior to shipping, allowing for the necessary certifications to be in place.

TDE was responsible for the construction management, commissioning, start-up, and operational performance test, as well as personnel training for processes and operation. TDE also registered the plant and equipment with local authorities and standards agencies. To this end, TDE applied for and provided documentation for the Permit to Use, and passed the corresponding inspections.
