Electrical Engineering Manager

Position Summary: The role of the Electrical Engineering Manager is to supervise the electrical engineering group, act as electrical discipline project lead on large projects and complete electrical engineering design associated with the oil and gas production equipment that TDE designs and manufactures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Direct / indirect supervision of engineers, technologists and design / drafting personnel.
  • Participate in recruitment of new staff in conjunction with human resources and Engineering Manager; Primary input into staffing decisions (contracting, downsizing) related to Electrical engineering.
  • Develop and implement better estimating tools
  • Ongoing development / update of Master Proposal in conjunction with the Proposals Manager.
  • Optimization and minimization of electrical related facility operating costs, participation in planning for repairs, maintenance and upgrades of electrical systems in conjunction with VP projection and production manager
  • Investigate and attempt to develop new markets for TDE in the area of Power Generation equipment


  • Support, participate in, and help drive the overall company safety program, safety awareness, and safety targets.
  • Demonstrate and enforce all Safety Management System requirements.
  • Ensure all personnel know the location of all assembly or evacuation points.
  • Consistently demonstrate “Safety Leadership” qualities.

Leading & Managing People

  • Provide clear purpose and direction to your team.
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly.
  • Understand and communicate measurable performance objectives.
  • Complete annual performance appraisals of direct reports.
  • Resolve problems and conflicts positively in collaboration with the HR Manger.
  • Create a supportive, inclusive environment within the team.
  • Ensure team members have proper training prior to performing tasks.
  • Mentor and/or train team members to ensure their ongoing skills development.


  • 5-10 years’ experience in a similar position in a related industry.
  • Fabrication shop experience is an asset. 
  • Proficient knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Proficient in the design of major electrical systems including power, lighting, controls, communications, grounding, fire alarm.
  • Proposal preparation including written scope & cost estimates.
  • Preparation of certificates of compliance for electrical equipment.
  • Site commissioning and startup.
  • Electrical design on skids.
  • Design Control / Electrical buildings.
  • Preparation of data sheets and material take-offs.
  • Good understanding of financial metrics.
  • Proven ability to produce high quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritize activities and stay focused in a dynamic ever changing environment.
  • Demonstrate an ability to develop departmental “Key Performance Indicators”.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite (emphasis on Word, PowerPoint, & Excel), Lotus Notes, Acrobat Pro, and other software systems.


  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills – must be able to interact successfully with all levels of staff, from Managers to Senior Executives, with a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity toward client engagements and confidentiality when interacting with TDE leadership.
  • Adaptability and the ability to handle ambiguity.


  • Technical Diploma or Degree in Instrumentation Engineering or equivalency.
  • ASET or APEGGA designation.
