Human Resources Manager

Position Summary:
The Human Resources Manager controls and monitors the administration of all human resource activities and policies.  Manages compensation, benefits, staffing, employee relations and training/development functions.  Supervises professional human resources staff. In addition, is responsible for the administration of the company’s electronic timekeeping system.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  •  Plans, directs, and coordinates human resource management activities of the organization to maximize the strategic use of human resources and maintain functions such as employee compensation, recruitment, personnel policies, and regulatory compliance.
  •  Formulates policies and procedures for recruitment, testing, placement, classification, orientation, benefits, and labor and industrial relations.
  •  Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates work activities of subordinates and staff relating to employment, compensation, labour relations, and employee relations.
  •  Develops and facilitates internal leadership, management, and soft skills training seminars for all levels of the organization.
  •  Provides support to all department managers in human resource related activities and personnel relations.
  •  Ensures development of job descriptions for each position in the company.
  •  Recruits, screens and interviews employees to fill vacant positions.  Conducts a full reference check and extends offers.
  •  Processes employment paperwork, plans, and conducts new hire orientation to foster positive attitudes towards company goals.  Maintains records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, performance reviews, and terminations.
  •  Sets up employees in the electronic timekeeping system (Manusonic).
  •  Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation.  Conducts exit interviews, when appropriate, to determine reasons behind separations.
  •  Requests regular status reports from departmental managers to assess company hiring needs.
  •  Maintains complete discretion with confidential matters.
  •  Maintains all HR and employee files, including employee status and benefits program.
  •  Updates Company’s employee manual and assists management in creating new policies.
  •  Proactively seeks and researches benefit plans to better serve the company’s needs (i.e. price, coverage, etc.).
  •  Processes enrollments, changes, and terminations to TDE’s Employee Health Benefit Plan.
  •  Maintains complete and accurate files on all company benefits.
  •  Liaison for all employees of the company.  Can assist if necessary with employee mediation needs.
  •  Reviews ongoing performance results and identifies needs of employees.  Implements coaching or mentoring partnerships as appropriate.
  •  Maintains a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement.
  •  Communicates clearly and directly with employees concerning performance expectations, productivity, and accountability.
  •  Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, processes, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customers.
  •  Develops employees for future advancement when possible.Safety 
  •  Support, participate in, and help drive the overall company safety program, safety awareness, and safety targets.
  •  Demonstrate and enforce all Health & Safety Management System requirements.
  •  Ensure all personnel know the location of all assembly or evacuation points.
  •  Consistently demonstrate “Safety Leadership” qualities.

Experience:

  •  A minimum of 5 years of experience in a human resource management position.
  •  Knowledge of policies and practices involved in personnel/human resource functions.  This includes recruitment, selection, training, and promotion regulations and procedures; compensation and benefits packages; labour relations and negotiation strategies; and personnel information systems.
  •  Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution.  This includes strategic planning, resource allocation, manpower modeling, leadership techniques, and production methods.
  •  Proficient knowledge of industry best practices.
  •  Ability to develop and facilitate internal leadership, management, and other soft skills training for employees and managers.
  •  Good understanding of financial metrics.
  •  Proven ability to produce high quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines.
  •  Demonstrate an ability to prioritize activities and stay focused in a dynamic ever changing environment.
  •  Demonstrate an ability to develop departmental “Key Performance Indicators”.
  •  Knowledge of MS Office suite (emphasis on Word, PowerPoint, & Excel), Lotus Notes, Acrobat Pro, and other software systems.

Education: 

  •  Diploma in Human Resource Management
  •  CHRP Certification
  •  Member of CPHR (Alberta)
